Biography

Joel Reed is chairman emeritus of RA Capital. Mr. Reed previously was a founding member of Relational Group, an investment management and financial advisory firm, which was a predecessor of RA Capital. Mr. Reed was also a founding member of Titan Investment Partners, a venture capital fund that invests in software and software enabled service firms. With many years of operating experience and an extensive background advising public and private company boards of directors on a wide range of corporate issues, Mr. Reed offers knowledgeable counsel to RA Capital’s clients and partners.

Examples of Mr. Reed’s many assignments involving mergers & acquisitions, financings, restructurings & crisis situations and complex shareholder matters, are the merger of Titan Corporation with L-3 Communications and acting as financial advisor to the post-bankruptcy Enron.

Prior to joining Relational Group in 1994, Mr. Reed served as president and CEO of Wagner & Brown, Ltd., a privately owned group of energy, real estate, manufacturing, agribusiness and investment services businesses based in Midland, Texas. Among his chief accomplishments during his tenure at Wagner & Brown were the formation of an in-house investment banking group and numerous investments and acquisitions.

From 1981 to 1984, Mr. Reed was a member of the founding group of Ensource, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange-listed company, where he served as controller and CFO. Prior to 1981, he was a manager with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells.

Mr. Reed has served as a member of the boards of directors for a number of public and private corporations. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Oklahoma State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and a formally FINRA-registered principal.
