At the time of the transaction Gerber Scientific Inc. (formerly NYSE: GRB) served three markets. The company provided printing equipment, software and related supplies to customers in the sign making and specialty graphics industry; design and cutting equipment and software to customers in the apparel and industrial markets and processing equipment, software and related supplies to customers in the ophthalmic lens processing industry.
In an effort to refocus the Company along the line of its two largest segments and shed an underperforming segment, the Board of Gerber made the decision to divest Gerber Coburn, its smallest segment.
RA Capital Advisors designed and orchestrated a competitive bidding process for the asset and led all negotiations. Ultimately, Gerber Coburn was sold to a newly formed entity owned by a former board member and the segment’s president.
